Good evening JRCSD Families,

Our school board recently adopted a new Multi-Year Plan for the school district. This living document will be continually updated for years to come and is grounded in our Strategic Design and our mission to “inspire, engage, and empower all learners to thrive in their lives and communities.” This new plan is guided by an intentional focus on three key areas: community, communication, and collaboration. It is with these three principles in mind that I am reaching out today.

We have done a great deal of work throughout the district over the past few years to consider our learners’ needs and to adjust our efforts accordingly. This work needs to continue on a number of fronts. As we enter the budget planning process for the 2023-24 school year, we invite our community to continue to look at student needs, instructional models, the makeup and structure of our schools, facilities, and more to determine how we can effectively budget and build sustainability for the future.

Starting in early November, we will run two new short-term committees, one focused on elementary education, and another centered on athletics/activities.

The JRCSD 2022 Elementary Education Committee (made up of staff and parents/guardians) will:

· Review our current elementary school structures and grade spans,

· Research best elementary school grouping practices,

· Analyze learner achievement and behavioral data,

· Discuss possibilities for how to improve “whole child” development,

· Discuss long-term desired academic and non-academic outcomes, and

· Provide a report to the school board with findings and recommendations.

The JRCSD 2022 Athletics Committee (made up of students, parents/guardians, coaches, club advisors, and staff)

· Review the current state of our district’s athletic/fitness spaces/fields/gyms,

· Assess the district’s current and future needs for athletic/fitness spaces,

· Discuss possibilities for how to improve our district’s athletic/fitness spaces,

· Develop a plan (if necessary) for how to improve athletic/fitness spaces, and

· Provide a report to the school board with findings and recommendations.

Each committee meeting will run approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours in length. Each committee will work with its membership to plan up to five (5) meetings from November 2022 through January 2023. If more time is needed or desired, each committee will work with its membership regarding further event planning.
