Good evening JRCSD families and staff,
Moments ago, we concluded an emergency school board meeting. This meeting was called because we confirmed two (2) COVID-19 clusters in the CHS/JRMS facility, clusters that have affected both students and staff.
During this meeting, I presented data that was provided to me today about the increase of COVID-19 in the middle/high school building. I ultimately recommended that JRMS/CHS institute mandatory masking for a period of time in order to try to reduce the level of spread.
After a number of public comments and board deliberation, the board voted to require masking in JRMS/CHS for the next five school days. This mitigation strategy will take place starting tomorrow, Tuesday, November 30 and last through Monday, December 6.
This temporary shift does not affect JGS or RMS, although we still do recommend the wearing of face masks. This shift also does not change any of the rules for athletics that we have put into place.
The school board will meet again on December 6th, a regularly scheduled school board meeting. During that meeting, the board will have further discussions about potentially changing the Reopening Framework to better address COVID-19 clusters and in-person spread. Staffing levels and COVID-19 transmission among staff members was also discussed tonight and could be a topic of discussion on the 6th.
I will be sure to communicate any changes made by the board during that meeting to you.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Have a nice evening.
Reuben Duncan
JRCSD Superintendent
