JRCSD Update - December 7, 2021 (Survey Included)

Important Update GraphicGood evening JRCSD families and staff,

There are a few items I would like to bring to your attention this evening:

1. School Board Decisions
2. COVID-19 Surveys
3. Positive COVID-19 Cases

School Board Decisions
A number of decisions were made by the school board at last night's meeting. I wanted to highlight a few of those decisions for you:

- The board adopted language for the Reopening Framework that will institute mandatory masking for a period of five calendar days at any school/building when there is a COVID-19 cluster or confirmed in-building spread. The school principal, in consultation with me and the school nurse(s), has the ability to extend the masking period beyond the five day period based on school data and the ability to conduct classes. Administration will make attempts to limit mandatory masking to the area(s) of the building impacted by the cluster or confirmed in-building spread.
- The board gave me authority to decide between remote days and snow days in the event of inclement weather. If a remote day is a possibility, efforts will be made to alert families in advance, and Chromebooks will be sent home. Any remote day would follow the process used last year (two-hour delay followed by remote instruction). Pre-k and kindergarten students will not have any remote days.
-The school board's Saturday, December 11 budget workshop meeting has been moved to Monday, December 13 at 5:00 p.m. A budget overview was presented last night; this upcoming session is to allow the board the opportunity to more thoroughly look at the budget.

COVID-19 Surveys
Another decision the school board made on Monday night was to follow the advice of the district's Reopening Framework Ad Hoc Committee and survey families and staff about COVID-19 and the district's current mitigation strategies. The board felt that this was an important step before making any potential changes to the Reopening Framework or Mitigations Strategies Matrix.

If you are a JRCSD parent/guardian or student, you may fill out this survey.

If you are a JRCSD staff member, you may fill out this survey.

These surveys will remain open until Monday, December 13 at 8:00 a.m.

Positive COVID-19 Cases
I was notified today of two(2) confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in the district, one (1) at RMS and one (1) at JGS. The RMS individual was last in the building on 12/6 and the JGS individual was last in the building on 11/23.

Have a nice evening,

Reuben Duncan
