Overall October was a great month: the Fall Music Concert was a great event, the AP US History students had a great trip to Nantucket, our students toured Millipore, Teleflex, and Graphicast as part of Manufacturing Week, 21 new students were inducted into the CHS Interact Club, the defending state champion Envirothon team began this year’s competition, and our girls’ soccer team hosted a state playoff game.

Strategic Design

A highlight for me was the Strategic Design Event held October 26th-28th in the Pratt Auditorium. A true community event, with folks from local businesses and colleges, clergy, parents, school board members, staff from elementary, middle, and high schools, school administrators, and current students gathered to talk about how we can improve learning opportunities for our learners. I want to thank all who participated, and I look forward to sharing more with you as we move forward as a district.

November promises to be another busy month. Term 1 ends on November 3rd and report cards will be sent home on Monday, November 13th. Of course there is the Thanksgiving recess that I know everyone is looking forward to, including me. It is a great time to get away from school, spend time with friends and family, and reflect on the good things in our lives.  I want to take a moment and let all who are reading this know how thankful I am for the learners and staff, for their efforts in working with each other to improve our school, and to the J-R community for their continued support of our schools.

Seniors and families! Do you need a little help getting your FAFSA filed? On Wednesday, November 15th from 4 to 6:30 PM there will be financial aid counselors from Keene State College here to assist you with filing your FAFSA. See your school counselor or Mrs. Taylor for more information and to reserve a slot today!

Participating students are able to apply for FREE to all NH colleges and universities during this event and will be entered to win a $500 college scholarship simply by submitting just one application. Please contact the School Counseling Office for more information at extension 227.

A highlight of November is sure to be the Drama Club’s production of The Music Man coming to the Pratt on November 17h and 18th. The cast and crew have put a lot of time and effort into this production and I can’t wait to see their performance.

Cash prizes of $100 for first place and $50 for second are offered, and winners will present their work at Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 15, 2018. Each year, the school is required by the state of New Hampshire to conduct 10 evacuation drills. So far this year we have held 5 fire/evacuation drills and 1 lock down drill.  As we approach the winter months, we will conduct more indoor drills such as lockdowns or shelter in place.  In the past we have conducted these drills with the assistance of the Jaffrey Police and Fire Departments, and will continue to work with both . I am grateful to both departments for their eagerness to work with us, and I am looking forward to proactively working with them more
Go Orioles!
