Greetings Conant Community,

It is hard to believe it is December already! With the Holiday Recess beginning on December 22, this month will go by so fast as well.

I hope you got a chance to get to the Drama Club’s production of The Music Man. The kids did an AMAZING job! For those of you who may not be aware, the production was truly a collaborative effort. While the Drama Club performed and executed the production, the Building Trades’ class worked on the set and art classes painted the backdrops. As principal of CHS, I am really proud of the entire effort! Thanks surely go out to Mr. Dustin, Mrs. Swift and the entire cast and crew!

On the evening of November 29th, the Student Council held a coffee house in the exercise room. Several students, and at least one teacher, got a chance to show off their pipes. I was so impressed, I left thinking that we need to provide more opportunities for our students to show their talents.

I am excited that December brings with it a new sports season. Basketball, swimming, and indoor track are underway. You can check out the schedule here:  http://conantathletics.bigteams.com/ .

Last spring, the school board approved the purchase of additional Chromebooks for the district so that we can move closer to a 1 to 1 program. I am pleased to announce that we are preparing now to roll them out when we return from Holiday Recess. Please click here for more information.

On the two days preceding Thanksgiving recess, both Building Trades classes had the opportunity to participate in a "Mini -Barn" raising that involved a post & beam porch addition. The students learned the basics of timber framing that involves the component parts of the structure, and the process of Mortise & Tendon Joinery in class. They then traveled to Swanzey, NH to assemble and raise the timber structure with the guidance of Mr.Moore, George Kitz, and Dave Beauchamp. The the walls and roof frame were assembled and pegged in the "Old School Tradition."  As the second day came to a close, the class had enclosed most of the roof and the grand finale involved the installation of a beautiful 4' diameter window in the gable-end. Traveling back to school the crew reflected on the joy of working together on the timber frame structure.

The Jaffrey Civic Center has an opening for a student elocutionist for Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. 2018.  The speaker will be one of two student guests who will deliver short passages from Dr. King’s iconic “I Have A Dream” speech at our event on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at the United Church of Jaffrey on Monday, January 15, 2018, 5-6 p.m.  The speech passage may be read or recited from memory according to the speaker’s preference.  This is an exceptional opportunity to develop oratorical skills and deliver a dramatic speech interpretation in public.  Contact the Jaffrey Civic Center at 532-6527 or write to mlkjaffrey@gmail.com
