May 1, 2018

I hope this letter finds you well.  It is hard to believe that we are in May already. I am hoping this month brings great weather, because April was a bit gloomy. May tends to be hectic as the AP exams get underway, several field trips take place, the prom  is coming, the spring musical and music concert are scheduled, there is a full boat of athletic contests, and the start of seniors’ final exams begin this month. It will surely fly by!

Project Crash -  May 9th from 11:30-1:00

This time of year, I am reminded of the potential risks associated with risky driving behaviors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens.”
In an effort to send a reminder to our school community of the dangers of unsafe driving behaviors, we have partnered with the Jaffrey and Rindge Fire and Police Departments, and Cournoyer Funeral Home in conducting a crash simulation prior to the prom, that aims to send a real-world reminder of unsafe driving behaviors such as texting and driving, drinking and driving, and not using seatbelts.  This car crash simulation starts with a mock 911 call, followed by real crashed vehicles on school grounds, actors as crash victims, and the work of emergency responders. The whole school community will watch the demonstration in our parking lot, which will be followed by an assembly with first responders and the funeral home. Parents are invited to attend. Due to the nature of this presentation, we will have extra staff available to meet with students following the event.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Thanks to all those who attended our course selection information night last month. Please know that students will be selecting courses, with their school counselors, starting next week. If you have questions feel free to contact the School Counseling Office.
This month, all juniors will complete the state required science assessments on May 24th.  This year students will take the new NH State Assessment System. For more information, please go to http://nh.portal.airast.org/.

In the next week or so I will email you again with an updated end-of-the-year schedule. That email will include the seniors’ final exam schedule, graduation week events, and the underclassmen’s exam schedule.
