JRMS Red Ribbon Week

During the October 23-31 Red Ribbon Week the Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School is taking proactive measures to educate students about substance abuse while promoting healthy living. Red Ribbon Week was started in response to the murder of DEA agent, Enrique Camarena. In response to this tragic event parents and youth across the country began wearing red ribbons to raise awareness of the devastating impacts of drugs in our communities.

Today the red ribbon serves as a catalyst for mobilizing communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention. Counselor, Diane Bush, discusses that organizers of the week have planned to balance fun activities with the more serious activities intended to  “put the problem on the table.” Speakers during the week will  include: Two students from Rockdale Recovery High School in Worcester, Lieutenant Todd Muilenberg of Jaffrey PD and Mary Drew, Executive Director of Reality Check in Jaffrey. Some of the fun activities for the week include raffles, cupcake wars and a dance.
