Michelle Durand Named New Interim Assistant Principal
The Jaffrey-Rindge School District School Board recently approved the nomination of 17-year JRMS veteran Michelle Durand to the post of Interim Assistant Principal for Safety and Culture for the remainder of the school year. She begins the role on November 12th.
When asked about what interests her about the temporary new role, Durand stated, “I am looking forward to using my middle level experience so that the 6-12 merger will be a smoother process. I love this community and am looking forward to serving the teachers/ learners in the system.” Reuben Duncan, District Superintendent, commented on Durand’s suitability for the position in a recent Monadnock Ledger Transcript article about the appointment. “She has a good understanding of the operations of the middle school. We wanted to make certain the individual hired understood the workings of Conant High School and Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School. Michelle has that knowledge with the district.”
Durand’s background includes instruction of middle school students in health and wellness, writing and ELA. Over her tenure at JRMS she has also served as the Team leader of UA team, Mentor of ela, art, music, health education educators and JRMS Mentor Coordinator, Student Council co-advisor, middle level field hockey coach, Positive Behavioral Support System Leadership Team, Intervention Team Member, Co-chair of District Wellness team, founder of JR ALIVE Community Coalition (a force that focused on creating presentations that highlight protective factors that an combat youth substance temptation and use).
Durand earned her undergraduate degree from Skidmore College and her advanced degree from Southern NH University. She has also taught in Virginia and at South Meadow School in Peterborough, NH. In total she has taught for 24 years primarily at the 5th-7th grade level.
A long term substitute will be hired to fill the 7th grade ELA position vacated by Durand. A search for a permanent Assistant Principal for Safety and Culture will begin in the Spring of 2019.
